Assistant Professor Tenure-Track AgComm – Illinois

Applications are invited for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor position in Agricultural Communications in the College of Media at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The College of Media and the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) jointly sponsor the Agricultural Communications major. The Assistant Professor appointment will be based in the Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising within the College of Media.

The Agricultural Communications program has provided courses on a regular schedule since the1940s. The program has been offered jointly by the College of ACES and the College of Media since it began a half century ago; more recently, those connections have been strengthened to mutually benefit both students and faculty. The Department of Advertising at the University of Illinois was established in 1959 by Charles H. Sandage, considered by many to be the “father of advertising education.” Today, the newly renamed Charles H. Sandage Department of Advertising celebrates Sandage’s legacy and his vision with a program that is professionally relevant, yet broad enough that students learn critical, analytical and problem solving skills. As the leading institution for advertising education in the world, our curriculum, “The Sandage Way,” lays claim to the philosophy of our founder while positioning us for the future. Our faculty incorporates these values in their teaching and scholarship that is focused on understanding, evaluating and communicating the many faceted aspects of advertising.
Successful candidates will develop a nationally recognized program of research, will be excellent teachers at the undergraduate level, and will perform service in the department, the agricultural communications program, the community and academic field. Responsibilities include:
•   Developing and teaching undergraduate courses in such areas as public relations, advertising and other marketing communications, new and emerging media technology, and informational campaigns.
•   Contributing to the scholarly literature of agricultural communication.
•   Developing an externally funded research program in Agricultural Communication.
The position will begin on August 16, 2012. Ph.D. in AgriculturalCommunications or related field required. Individuals working towards a Doctorate degree may be considered, but the degree must be obtained by the starting date.  Salary will be commensurate with experience.
